How to Move Mountains

Mountains are seemingly insurmountable occurrences, obstacles on our path to greatness, unpleasant distractions during our life journey. Different forms of mountains present themselves to different people at different points in life. For some people it’s financial lack, for others it could be accommodation issues, joblessness, childlessness, health issues, opposition, persecution, delay to marry, an abusive relationship, and so on. The common factor, however, is that when they occur, they appear to be such a giant or an endless cycle such that a person facing it starts to wonder if it will ever be over with or come to an end.

The reason God allows mountains is this- how else can we discover that we were built to move them if we don’t face them? Mountains build us and make us stronger. Mountains allow us to show the world what our God is made of, because the same mountain that stops someone will show forth the power of God through another man. Mountains are surmountable and those issues will soon be in your past because you will overcome by God’s grace.

How are we taught to overcome mountains in God’s word? We will find all we need to know in Zechariah 4:6-10.

1.) Pray in tongues: Verse 6.

“So he said to me, “This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by my Spirit,’ says the LORD Almighty”

We will not be able to move a mountain by our physical strength but by the strength of the Holy Spirit. How? The way to engage the Holy Spirit in respect of a matter, is to pray in tongues concerning the matter. Pray in tongues my friend.

2.) Prophesy over it: Verse 7.

“What are you, mighty mountain? Before Zerubbabel you will become level ground. Then he will bring the capstone to shouts of ‘God bless it! God bless it!”

In regards to prophecy, you are required to do two things. The first is to tell your mountain that it is defeated and will become a level ground; you cannot afford to be scarce with words when you want to win a kingdom battle. The second is to tell your expectation to live; bless your desire with words that cause it to take form. Speak against the mountain! Speak life to your desire! Speak! Speak!! Speak!!!

3.) Get the Word of the Lord for the matter: Verse 8.

“The word of the LORD came to me”

For every situation, there is a Word that God will lead you to or say to you in line with scriptures. The Word of the Lord will come to you as long as you have presented the matter to Him by following the above (1 and 2) procedures. Receive that Word with all readiness and let it encourage you that God will indeed cause the mountain to move. Put the Word in your heart and in your mouth and salvation will come.

4.) Persist towards your desired end: Verse 9.

“The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundation of this temple; his hands will also complete it. Then you will know that the Lord Almighty has sent me to you”

That mountain should not stop you on your tracts, even if the situation requires that you stop, find a way to create motion concerning the matter at hand. Volunteer to care for peoples’ kids or buy your wedding dress in faith, prepare for the job interview or start looking for a house. Don’t stop for a mountain, find a way to make progress in spite of it. As long as you keep moving, the mountain will bow to your Spiritually-backed tenacity.

5.) Ensure that you are in God’s will: Verse 10.
“Who dares despise the days of small things, since the seven eyes of the Lord that range throughout the earth will rejoice when they see the chosen capstone”

The Spirit of God will rejoice over your accomplishment, only if it is the choice or will of God for you. Don’t expect God to prosper a fraudulent deal whereby the mountain is the police.

While this is the last point, it is the mother of them all. A mountain obstructs God’s will for our lives but when a situation has come to prevent us from going outside God’s will, it is not a mountain but a blessing. If what you want to accomplish is God’s will, it will prosper in your hands even if it looks small.
