How to Serve God’s Purpose with the Anointing Upon you.

Is it possible to be anointed and not serve God’s purpose with it? Yes. While it is not right, an anointed person can actually serve his own purpose or the purpose of the people rather than God’s. The people who did miracles in the Lord’s name but were rejected by Him in Matthew 7:23 were obviously anointed, but their results fell short of God’s purpose.

While God gives the body of Christ gifts in the form of men that He has empowered to serve His purposes, the men are still men and susceptible to the flesh. It is, therefore, the responsibility of each man to guard his calling. God does His part by giving instructions and guidance, by testing and pruning, but each man must commit to staying true to the purpose of the anointing.

The anointing looks good on a man, no doubt. It is therefore important that an anointed person stays humble under the mighty hand of God, knowing that it is not of works but of grace.

While these principles that will be discussed are relevant with regards to the five-fold ministry, they are also applicable to every Christian because we all have been anointed to bear the gospel of Christ to the ends of the earth, through our various engagements and assignments. Now, what are these Principles? Let’s delve in.

Always remember that the purpose of the Anointing is God’s Purpose. Remember that Jesus was doing so well in ministry and the people who were impressed by His exploits wanted to take Him and make Him a king, but He found a way to escape. The anointing is capable of doing so many great things and so if we are not careful, we will begin to engage it for personal gain, fame, or the peoples’ expectations.

I have seen many men of God tread carefully and impressively within the boundary of this grace; some refused to be aired on Television, even though they had the resources, because God had not asked them to do so; some have maintained having just a branch of the Church they lead, because they do not want to expand just because it feels like the next best thing to do, not unless God says so.

Use the Anointing how God wants.

The anointing produces results. Even more important to note is that it is possible to get results by the anointing but outside of God’s instruction. When God calls a man and he yields to Him, He empowers him. For as long a man is empowered, God expects that he stays yielded to Him.

When God called Moses, He empowered him to face Pharaoh and set the Israelites free. From the plagues in Egypt to the pointing of the rod that parted the Red Sea, all were according to how God instructed him. A problem, however, arose when Moses struck the rock to get water for the Israelites. The problem was that God told Moses to speak to the rock to get water, not to strike the rock. Now, did the rock produce water when Moses struck it? Yes. Was the striking according to God’s instruction? No. This singular act did not please God and He did not allow Moses to see the promised land because of it.

Don’t take Credit for the Anointing.

Do not find yourself thinking that the anointing was bestowed upon you because you are special, pray a lot, fast a lot, and so on. If you do, you will not only take credit for the anointing but will also begin to take credit for the results of the anointing. This pit is very deep and you must avoid it.

As long as you realize that you have been empowered to bring Glory to God, the results of the anointing will continue to amaze even you the vessel. You will pray for people in secret and see the results in their lives but will not need to let them know how you held a prayer vigil and 7 days fast for their sake. When they receive their miracle, they glorify God and that is all that is important; that is the goal.

If you begin to find yourself desiring that the input you make into peoples’ lives be recognized and rewarded, you have to rebuke the flesh because it wants to find expression in what God is doing with you. It is God that rewards. Besides, do you know how many people pray for you too? To be used by God is forever a privilege and not a right or merit. This leads to the final point below.

Don’t be Eager to be Seen but to be Felt.

When a man is anointed by God, it is all about what God can do in the lives of people. Since this is it, then an anointed man will continue to seek that God and His power be seen and not him. This does not mean that a Pastor should hide from the pulpit or an Evangelist should preach wearing masks, it is about the state of the heart rather than just physical visibility.

Pointing men to God and giving room for them to take in His wonders is key. It will reflect in words and choices. Can you remember that Jesus told many of the people He performed a miracle on, to tell no one about it? It is because He was eager to be felt rather than be seen. When Jesus healed the lame man in John 5, He disappeared into the crowd. However, note that the miracles could not hide, His fame spread far and wide regardless. The lesson here is that we must not seek fame, but to be of help to others and get the Kingdom work done.

The blessings and benefits that come as a result of doing the work will always follow, it’s just that we must not seek them.

In conclusion, without a doubt, an anointed person must be careful to stay connected to God and never trivialize His mercies. It is a responsibility that is humbling and must be guarded by maintaining a meek Spirit.

The most important thing eventually is to do God’s will, whether as an anointed five-fold minister or an anointed workplace minister. Matthew 7:21. May we always stay true to God and His purpose for our lives in Jesus’ name. Amen.
