In this writeup, my goal is to emphasize how important it is that a Christian’s loyalty should be to God. There is no way to show that God is truly our priority other than being loyal to Him.
If what we seek is that men be loyal to us, we will not discover those who carry out eyeservice, are ambitious, or have a quest for power. For example, when a Christian wants to get married, if he or she chooses someone based on how well they are treated by the person, they could miss deception in the process; while how we are treated is important, it should only come after their loyalty to God has been established. On the other hand, if a person first looks out for the candidate’s love for God, he or she will find out that the person’s love for God gives them the capacity to love him or her as well.
While some of you would think “of course, every Christian should be loyal to God”, we must realize that humans and the Christian category inclusive, enjoy the sense of importance that comes with someone putting them first. While there is a feel-good feeling that accompanies this, our joy should be that people get to put God first, whether it favors us or not.
If Joseph had been loyal to his master’s wife, he would have slept with her, but he refused to do so because he was loyal to God.
If Samuel had been loyal to Saul, he would not have anointed David as king in Saul’s place, but God asked him to do so and he was loyal to Him.
David did not kill Saul when he had a chance to and that was not because Saul was a king (remember that he killed the kings of other nations); it is because Saul was God’s king. David was loyal to God.
Daniel, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego in being loyal to God, defied instructions that were contrary to God’s will and subjected themselves to the dire consequences. In these stories, their loyalty to God pointed kings to Him; a leader is positioned to see ahead of the people, but he is not always able to see it all. When surrounded by people who are loyal to God, they will point you to Him when necessary but those who are loyal to you will leave you in your errors.
Joab was loyal to David and he, therefore, helped him to facilitate the murder of Uriah. Maybe if Joab had been loyal to God instead, he would have defied this particular instruction of King David and maybe David’s errors would have been fewer. While it could cost Joab, he would have protected his leader’s destiny.
The person who is capable of putting you first is the one who has put God first.
A man who tells you your wrong is not the one to fear, but the one who hides it from you.
The Kingdom work that we have been called to demands that God is all and in all but if we seek to be magnified in it, then where is God’s place? Since equal allegiance to two entities is not possible, I beckon that our allegiance should be to God and God alone. He is the author and finisher of our faith. Let’s practice this and let’s preach it.

This is a simple truth.
