Emily was a pretty girl who got loads of attention from men even from a young age. She however knew that she needed to be careful with how she handled such attention in order to keep her Christian testimony. She got to date just one person as a teenager and the older she grew, the more she was convinced that while she could have both male and female friends, she would only date someone she knew she could marry.
Emily’s friends encouraged her to just keep trying out different men since any of them could be right for her. She however maintained her posture of making friends but only dating anyone she felt she could marry. Her reasons were that she wanted to avoid unnecessary emotional attachments with different men and also to avoid the temptation of marry a person just because she had dated him. She needed to keep her eyes single. Eventually, many of her friends did not end up marrying the persons they were dating at those times.
While trusting God, she kept herself busy with work and ministry. She kept advancing in age and even her mom started to ask her if she would marry one of her male friends that came visiting her at home but she kept replying by saying “God is working it out, it’s not them”.
On a particular day in the January of a new year, Emily went visiting her friends in ministry at their place of work. When she got there, she met someone who was a friend to her friends with whom she got along like they had known each other for so long. They talked at length and when she was ending the visit, they said their goodbyes. Suddenly, she felt an unusual presence of God as she parted from him and she knew she might have just received a sign from God that the man she just met was good for her.
Months passed and as Emily approached her late 20s, she started to pray more frequently concerning the matter of marriage. She however noticed something strange; each time she prayed specially concerning marriage, she either missed a call from the man she met earlier in the year or got a message from him. This happened about 3 times and thereafter she decided to stop considering it as a coincidence and decided to call him back. She called him back for the first time and it seemed like their discussions in January never ended- they started off talking again and spending so much time on phone calls and Whatsapp chats. About two weeks later, they met physically for the second time, and subsequently, he asked her to date him and she agreed. They kept knowing each other and the more they did, the more it felt right for both parties. Their values and visions aligned and they had similar passion for the things of God. It felt so easy for her at this point to conclude that God had now brought the person who is good for her. 10 months later, he proposed to her and she agreed. They got married a year after they started dating and they have been happily married for many years now.
Emily is happy that she stayed focused in faith, knowing that it is not of him that wills nor of him that runs but of God that shows mercy.
