Riyike was just 13 years old when she found a lump in her breast and showed her mother. Her mother knew immediately that they had to get to the hospital. The doctor examined her and recommended that the lump be removed. Her mother thanked the doctor for telling her what was wrong with her daughter and said that she would take the issue to the person who has the solution to it. There and then, Riyike knew that her mother was referring to God as the One who has the solution and that is because she had watched her mother believe in God, serve Him wholeheartedly, even from a tender age. She felt a surge of hope and faith because her mother’s option seemed better than the doctor’s- since God could heal her, why choose to undergo a surgery?
The reality of the ailment hit harder on Riyike when she got home.The daily newspaper had arrived and on the front page was the story of a popular actress who had just died of cancer. She started to cry and that was because she was so young and did not want to think about dying. Besides, she thought her mother was just going to say a word of prayer and it would be all over but it was actually going to take a process of believing and staying in faith.
As soon as they got home, the first thing her mother did was to lead her to Christ. She asked her if she would give her life to Christ. Riyike had attended Church twice every week with her family and so she knew that this was a call to a deeper walk with God. She said yes and her mother turned to the last page of the Evangelism pamphlet she had in her hand and asked her to say the sinners prayer after her and she did.
This was the moment of transformation for Riyike. Immediately, she remembered the things that she had been taught at Sunday School, especially about sin being loathsome to God. She knew she never wanted to live in sin again but deliberately make choices that please God. At that moment, she saw light come into her life and she was never the same again. The biggest miracle had just happened in her and it was the miracle of salvation.
Everyday for a couple of weeks, her mum kept praying with her, confessing scriptures and thanking God for healing. At intervals, they would both check to see if the lump had disappeared and noticed that it kept becoming smaller and when it had become really tiny, they visited the hospital again.
The doctor on seat read the report of the last doctor, carried out an examination, and took a deep sigh. He said ‘mummy, the God that you serve, is whom you should keep serving because what I read in the report is different from what is. There is nothing wrong with your daughter anymore, you can go”.
That is how Riyike was healed by the Living God. Now, over 20 years later, she has seen God show up for her in more ways than can be numbered. Her walk of faith grew stronger and her conviction is that God is real and is powerful to save and deliver.
